Workshop D - Driving Diversity & Inclusion at Microsoft Driving Diversity & Inclusion is a critical global objective for Microsoft, not only does the creation of a diverse, inclusive working environment align closely with Microsoft values, it makes sound business sense. In a challenging commercial environment, successful organisations must effectively build, nurture and retain the most talented people. Diversity & Inclusion is at the very heart of such talent management: enabling the attraction of the widest possible pool of candidates; building a culture of respect and inclusion, where every single person feels empowered to do their best work; and retaining talented people who drive value for the organisation, and themselves, over the long-term. Workshop E - Engaging Leadership & Valuing Diversity: the inextricable link in creating organisations that maximise the potential of their people In an era of swingeing cuts, the NHS will only be able to provide the highest quality of patient care and safety if it maximises the potential of all staff by creating and sustaining a culture of engagement. This presentation will describe how research, including our own, on leadership and diversity has revealed how this can best be achieved by organisations, and what steps individual managers can take to increase their influence and their team’s effectiveness. Workshop F - Managing Workplace Issues in a Culturally Competent Manner In this workshop, NHS Employers will facilitate a session that will look at how delegates can use the knowledge and skills they will or have gained from the Breaking Through Programme to help their organisation to achieve cultural competence. Workshop G - Managing Your Career During Uncertain Times How do you successful manage your career in a rapidly changing environment? How do you guarantee employability? Michael will introduce participants to the Intelligent Career Model. Participants will be invited to identify their ideal role 3-5 years into the future, identify the competencies (skills, knowledge, expertise) the very best candidate will need for that role, and finally carry out a self assessment against those competencies. The session will conclude by giving participants a route map to achieve those competencies. Workshop H - Workforce Issues in Challenging Times This interactive workshop will look at some of the challenges that the NHS will have to meet over the next few years as the current financial situation tightens and demographic changes and lifestyle issues impact on population health and wellbeing. New initiatives and a new government will mean that organisations need to look again at their workforce and how to make this fit for purpose, innovative and able to work with local communities both proactively and in response to the changing agenda. Workshop I - NHS Transformation Programmes – Getting to Good at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust The presentation will describe the first steps in assessing and achieving transformation

Delegates attending this workshop will be provided with a description and outcomes of the programme. They will have the opportunity to hear the personal experience of a graduate of the programme and also consider what more needs to be done. In particular focussing on what is emerging from the Strategic Health Authorities Talent and Leadership Assurance visits. Workshop L - World Class Commissioning; The second year of WCC and its implications for the NHS WCC assurance is about increasing performance and ambition in commissioning. This year, the NHS faces the duel challenge of improving quality at a time of real economic constaints. The expectations of Year 2 of WCC has signifiant implications for the way services are commissioned and provided. This session explores these implications and will provide some insight into how PCTs and providers will be required to develop capability and skills to improve quality at the same time as improving productivity and cost effectiveness. Workshop M - ‘You cannot not communicate’, An introduction to Neuro Linguistic Programming Ever wondered what this NLP thing is, well satisfy your curiosity with a brief introduction. Workshop N - Personal Power This workshop will show how the accomplished young Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, demonstrates her considerable personal, not positional, power.
