JEFF EVANS

Jeff graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1989 with a Bachelors degree in Nursing. Since graduating he has held a number of clinical posts in intensive & critical care and education throughout Wales and England. He joined the University of Glamorgan in 1998 as a lecturer in life sciences applied to nursing, and currently teaches life sciences and critical care to both pre-registration and post-qualifying groups.
Jeff also has a long background in wilderness emergency care and has taught mountain first aid at the National Mountain Centre at Plas y Brenin in Capel Curig, and is currently an instructor in casualty care for the South Wales Search and Rescue Association and a volunteer member of the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team.
Jeff is currently deputy course director of the MSc Disaster Health care programme with an interest in;
- Operational management in disasters and the provision of care in austere and unsupported environments
- The interface between ethics and economics in decision making in disaster preparedness and response
- The use of high fidelity simulation as an educational strategy for advanced nursing practice.
Jeff was fortunate enough to be seconded from the University to the Italian NGO Emergency to act as senior trauma nurse in their civilian trauma hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan for three months in the summer of 2006. In addition to duties as senior nurse for trauma care, he also had responsibility for developing the nursing skills of Afghani nurses working in intensive care.
