PROFESSOR SHEILA C HUNT

Professor Sheila Hunt is currently currently the Dean and Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Cardiff University. She trained as a nurse and as a midwife in Cardiff and since 1990 has worked in universities and the NHS in Cardiff, Swansea, Mid Glamorgan, and Birmingham. Her most recent appointment was as the Dean of the School of Nursing at Dundee University.
Professor Hunt is a midwife, a nurse, an academic, an experienced educator and a leader. She am the author of 'The Social Meaning of Midwifery', 'The Midwife in Society' and 'Challenges in Midwifery Care' and 'Pregnant Women Violent Men - What Midwives need to know'. 'Pregnancy, Poverty and the Health Professional' was published in 2005. She has served as appointed and elected member of national and international statutory bodies and has been elected to the RCM Council.
Professor Hunt's research interests focus on health inequalities, social issues and pregnancy and UK health policy in particular in multidisciplinary groups and across collaborating universities. She also has had extensive experience of developing effective interdisciplinary postgraduate education and in implementing equality and diversity policies across the School.
She is particulary delighted to be back in Cardiff and is enjoying the warmer climate and the sea. She is also relishing the challenges of providing effective nursing and midwifery education in a rapidly changing health and social care environment.
