Cities and their businesses compete in a global market.
How will they fund and deliver the physical infrastructure to support growth and competitiveness?

Delivering growth and shaping places often requires the up-front funding of infrastructure for transport, housing, regeneration and economic development. The Lyon’s Inquiry, the recent Housing Green Paper and the Review of Sub-National Economic Development and Regeneration have all highlighted the potential for innovative financing mechanisms to achieve the necessary investment. In discussion with Government and industry, this session explores how Core Cities might increase their financial capabilities to develop new models of investment to stimulate private sector investment and partnership.

This session will include contributions by:

    Increasing the competitiveness of UK cities and businesses in a global context.

    What this would mean for the individual city and how it can be delivered.

    Setting out the context for discussion and present recent findings from the Core Cities review of Investment Financing, currently taking place which explores alternative financing mechanisms for major infastructure that delivers growth.

Delivering economic growth whilst tackling climate change is a challenge that will require new approaches and partnerships. Part of the problem and the potential solutions to climate change sit within our urban areas.

A sustainable, Prosperous Future – launch of a joint commitment on climate change
The leaders of the eight core cities and DEFRA will jointly sign an agreement committing our cities to build up on the Nottingham Declaration and to accelerate the reduction of CO2 emissions.
