High level skills are absolutely essential to the economic and social well-being of this country. The Government wants as many people as possible to experience higher education – to help them to unlock their talents and prosper individually as well as contributing to economic growth.

In April this year Bill Rammell, Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education, launched a consultation on this subject, "Higher Education At Work – High Skills: High Value", beginning a period of extensive public and stakeholder engagement. This consultation is intended to produce ideas on the sort of changes that need to be made to produce more, and more employable graduates and raise the skills of those already in the workplace.

There will be two consultation events, one in Manchester on 18 June, and the other in London on 3 July. If you wish to attend one of the events, please click on the appropriate registration button on the left of this page.

These are important events, and we want to hear from a range of employers, Vice-Chancellors and College Principals, trade unions and employees, SSCs and others with an interest. The outputs will be reported directly to me to help shape options and ideas for what needs to be done in the future.

We look forward to seeing you at one of these events, and hearing your ideas and thoughts on this important issue.
