ZUCKERMAN LECTURE
Glasgows receive personal 'thanks' from Al Gore.

Glasgows was recently commissioned by the Department of Trade and Industry to undertake the management and delivery of The Annual Zuckerman Lecture, at the Royal Society in London. This is a prestigious event where an internationally eminent figure in the science world is invited to address the British scientific community.

This year’s speaker was Al Gore, US Politician, teacher, businessman and environmentalist. The lecture was based on his award-winning film “An Inconvenient Truth” produced by Paramount Pictures. The lecture was chaired by Sir David King, Chief Scientific Adviser to HM Government and was followed by a discussion and question and answer session chaired by Malcolm Wicks, Minister for Science and Innovation. The audience was made up of 250 distinguished guests including Sir David Attenborough, the CEO of Sainsburys, The Director of Campaigns from Oxfam UK, the CEO of Shell UK and a Director from the Wellcome Trust.

At the end of the lecture a number of guests were invited to a private dinner. In line with the ethos of the lecture, the menu for the dinner was organic, Fairtrade and locally sourced where possible.

This event required top-level personal contact with the offices of many of the guests in addition to secure on-line booking procedures. All guests were provided with individual passwords for registration and were all asked to bring their personal invitation and photo ID with them to gain entrance on the night.

Glasgows subsequently received a handwritten note of thanks from Al Gore.
