Title: Carnegie Science Ministers Meeting
Venue: Lucknam Park , Nr Bath
The Carnegie meetings were originally established by the Carnegie Commission in 1991, as an opportunity for science ministers and advisers of the G8 countries to meet informally, without officials. Although not part of the official G8 structure, these meetings enable countries to develop a closer working relationship, to increase their understanding of various national perspectives and to exchange views on science issues.
The meetings are held twice a year, generally in June and December, and are hosted on a rotating basis between participating countries.
As with all G8/EU Presidency meetings, as well as the specific arrangements and mechanics of the meeting itself, the biannual meeting is also seen as an opportunity for the host to make a unique impression on its guests and, where possible, to showcase what their country has to offer. This meeting was also Sir David King’s final one as host and, therefore, he was especially keen to ensure that it made a lasting impression as his finale.
The weekend meeting was held at Lucknam Park, a magnificent country house venue just north of Bath. Glasgows was responsible for all aspects of the meeting including VIP transfer management, accommodation bookings and lunch and dinner catering arrangements. The event also included special entertainment including a City Tour of Bath and a reception with Carol singers and mulled wine.
In all 30 delegates attended will including Science Ministers or Advisers plus officials from each of the member states.
