Overview
When the Department for Work and Pensions took the decision to revamp and update their services to job seekers and employers, they recognised the need for their exhibitions to reflect these new services and the new Jobcentre Plus environment. The old card on board systems were to be replaced with electronic Jobpoints and telephone helplines and the entire office look was to be uplifted to present a bright, modern and professional environment.

The Glasgows Group was commissioned to design, manufacture and install new exhibition stands reflecting the new identity at a series of major shows. The stands incorporated the same décor style from ceiling tiles to laminate wood flooring. The graphics followed the corporate guidelines and used a specific pallet of colours and images. Facing materials, laminates etc match the woods used in the Centres and metallic laminates were introduced to provide a high tech look. The stands also featured the new service technology with demonstration Jobpoints, Internet links, plasma screens and telephone helpline access. We also produced a DVD editing together new graphics with stills shots and animated wall throughs to help illustrate the features of the new Jobcentre Plus.

The DWP exhibit at several shows so the design was made as modular as possible to enable the reuse of as many components as possible. Graphics were produced in individual panels and fixed in position using magnetic strips. This allowed for graphics to be reused and easily changed to suit the target audience, be it employers at events such as the CBI conference or jobseekers at Skill City. The Skill City event required the stand to be erected in a large temporary site. This stand has been refurbished and installed by the Glasgows Group for three years.

As a result of the success of the main stand, the Glasgows Group was asked to design, manufacture and install two mini-stands that could fit into standard shell schemes. Again, these stands reflect the new Jobcentre Plus environments and they are used at sector specific events. The use of interchangeable graphics means that they can be easily updated for a health related event or construction etc. These have been installed at conferences, exhibitions and even in marques at events such as the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh.
