One-stop young people's advice centre
Preston Urban Exchange is located in the heart of the city and ‘houses’ all the key services for young people – Connexions, Talkwize, C-Wize (Chlamydia), Teenage Pregnancy Service, Drugline, Smile, Barnardo’s Moving On, After Care, Youngaddaction and the Youth & Community Service.
Glasgows were contracted to devise a brand for Urban Exchange that would appeal to the target group of 11-25 year olds and which could be carried across all elements signage, & window displays, stationery & literature, promotional material, and merchandise including rucksacks, clothing and dog tags.
We were also asked to organise and manage the official opening of the centre, and a high profile community launch. Glasgows persuaded Coronation Street star ‘Fiz’ (Jenny McAlpine) to attend public launch free of charge, and the event took the form of a weekend street music festival.
Ahead of the launch, Glasgows printed a series of posters ‘designed for your life’ posters. These were displayed in schools, colleges, youth & community centres, bus & train stations etc., and a similar campaign incorporating branded beer mats was undertaken at city centre bars, pubs, cafes & coffee shops known to be frequented by the target group. We
The local music radio station, Rock FM. was deemed the best medium to deliver the message and Glasgows undertook script-writing and a four-week scheduling supported by a bus poster campaign across 120 vehicles.
Key achievements
Glasgows were able to reach almost 15,000 young people directly and ensured they all carry the Urban Exchange information card. Since opening, Urban Exchange has recorded a seven-fold increase in the number of young people seeking help and advice, and figures now show almost 7,000 contacts per quarter. Glasgows are currently designing and copywriting and producing Urban Exchange new brochure.
