Glasgows are delighted to announce that they have been selected to produce the 2011 Turner Prize ceremony at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead.
Established in 1984, the Turner Prize is arguably the world's most recognised and prestigious award for contemporary art. It is awarded to a British artist under fifty for an outstanding exhibition or other presentation of their work. Previous winners include Gilbert & George, Damien Hirst and Grayson Perry.
This will be the first time that the ceremony has been hosted outside of a Tate venue and only the second time in its illustrious history that it will have been held outside of London.
Glasgows will be offering technical and audiovisual support to BALTIC. George Thompson, Head of Business Development at Glasgows said “I’m absolutely ecstatic that Glasgows have been awarded this contract. It’s a tremendously high profile and prestigious event and the whole team are very excited.”
The Turner Prize exhibition opens on 21st October at BALTIC and the ceremony, which will be broadcast live on Channel 4 will take place on 5th December.
