UK-China Infrastructure Investment Conference

The brief:

The event provided an opportunity for UKTI to introduce Chinese and UK contacts to each other across industry and government. The primary objectives of the conference were;

• To educate potential Chinese investors on how to access UK infrastructure markets;
• To highlight specific investment opportunities and programmes to potential Chinese investors;
• Facilitate introductions between UK developers and potential Chinese investors;
• Strengthen the bilateral cooperation between UK and China on infrastructure investment.

The event was split into two distinct schedules. The morning session allowed Chinese attendees to hear about UK infrastructure: the types of opportunities available; legal and procurement issues; and case studies on how best to access UK markets. The afternoon sessions were split into three to cover specific investment areas of rail, energy, and regeneration.
 

On the day:

Glasgows provided a comprehensive package of event management services to support UKTI’s work. From inception, Glasgows worked with the client’s event planning team to devise a schedule of activities and programme of bilateral meetings which would allow as many of the Chinese investors to meet with UK companies as was possible in the time available.

Glasgows provided pre-event translation services for all official invitation documents, conference papers and presentations, including a large UK company profile report, directional signs and banners.

Glasgows also supported UKTI in the management of a pre-event conference dinner, held at Lancaster House. Here we provided ushers to meet and greet guests and a team of experienced whispering interpreters to sit amongst Chinese and UK government officials throughout the evening.

At the main event held at the Emirates Stadium the following morning, Glasgows provided a full meet and greet service, with Chinese interpreters available to chaperone Chinese delegates as they arrived at the venue. 
 

Outcome:

The conference was deemed a huge success with many of the Chinese investors providing comments throughout the day of their delight to be hosted by UKTI at the event.
